In Formula 1, the black and white chequered flag signifies the end of a race, with the first driver it’s waved off to being the winner. However, during the 2025 F1 season, there were instances where two chequered flags were waved at the conclusion of a grand prix. The first flag, with the FIA logo, is the official signal for the race’s end, while the second flag, waved from the pit wall, is a Formula 1 marketing gesture, not carrying any regulatory significance. The second flag includes the names of fans who purchase a panel, offering them a chance to be part of history by acquiring a section of the flag. This initiative allows fans to have their names featured on the flag, along with receiving a framed memento post-race that includes a picture of the flag being waved and a certificate of authenticity for their portion. Despite its commercial aspect, it adds a unique touch to the conclusion of a Formula 1 event beyond the traditional chequered flag.
